The Superfood Acai Bowl Recipe

Acai bowls burst onto the scene over 2 years ago and they’re here to stay. 

Acai berries come from Central and South America. You can typically buy them in a powder or frozen form elsewhere in the world. It’s hailed as a ‘superfood‘ because of it’s antioxidant properties – specifically the ability to boost immunity, repair and prevent cell damage and improve heart health. The berries have a yummy slightly fruity but rich taste, which I suspect has added to the popularity.

I’m not going to lie, acai powder is expensive. So let me share with you a trick to make your bag last for ages– pair your acai powder with frozen berries (which are also a great source of antioxidants) in a  fruity banana ice cream. This is a winning combination because it means you can use less powder and still keep the fruity taste and health benefits.

ACAI BOWL RECIPE

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp acai powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • Toppings (optional)*
    • Fresh raspberries and blueberries
    • goji berries
    • coconut flakes
    • cacao nibs

METHOD

  1. Blend all of the ingredients until smooth.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add your desired toppings.

*Add granola for extra crunch
