There are some places that live up to the hype. Yosemite somehow exceeds it!
Towering granite cliffs, waterfalls crashing hundreds of feet into the valley below, alpine lakes surrounded by pine trees, and giant sequoias that have stood for thousands of years. It’s the kind of place that reminds you how small you are—in the best possible way.
What surprised me most wasn't just how beautiful Yosemite was. It was how much we were able to experience in just four days. If you're planning your first trip to Yosemite, this is the exact guide I wish I'd had!

Where to Stay

The Pines Resort
If I planned this trip again, I'd stay here without hesitation. Located on Bass Lake, it’s close enough to Yosemite that you can be inside the park early each morning while still ending your days somewhere quiet. Instead of fighting traffic inside Yosemite after sunset, you'll finish the day overlooking the lake. It’s one of those places that immediately feels relaxing!
Why I Loved It
30 minutes from Yosemite
On the water
Multiple restaurants
Boat rentals nearby
Beautiful sunrise and sunset
Where to Eat
Breakfast

Curry Village
Simple. Quick. Perfect before an early hike. Grab coffee before heading to the Mist Trail!
Lunch

The Deck
After hiking nearly eight miles, nothing tastes better than pizza! It’s become one of the most iconic places to eat inside Yosemite for a reason. Don’t skip it! Right next door, you’ll also find Jeni's Ice Cream.
Dinner

Ducey's on the Lake
Ask for a window table if you can. Watching the sunset over Bass Lake while eating dinner might become one of your favorite memories from the trip. And yes, order the passion fruit mojito!
My Favorite Experiences
Sunset at Taft Point

If I could only recommend one thing in Yosemite, it would be this! Standing on the edge of a 3,500-foot drop while the sun sets behind Yosemite Valley is something I'll never forget. I almost turned around, but I'm so glad I didn't!
Bass Lake

I think Bass Lake deserves more attention. Most people drive right past it. Don’t! Rent a boat and watch the sunset. Slow down before the adventure begins.
Yosemite Falls by Bike

One of my favorite discoveries was the free bikes from the Yosemite Conservancy. Instead of sitting in traffic or hunting for parking, we rode through Yosemite Valley at our own pace. It ended up being one of the most relaxing parts of the trip! You have to download the app (Apple or Google) before going (you won't have service in the park) and scan to get a free 2-hour rental.
Things I'd Do Differently
Honestly, not much! The only thing I’d change is adding another day. I’d spend one more afternoon on Bass Lake or hike another trail inside Yosemite. Four days felt surprisingly doable, but Yosemite is one of those places where it’s easy to wish you had just one more day.
